Adventure Unlimited/DiscoveryBound Foundation)

Effective as of May 1, 2006

At Adventure Unlimited (A/U), we are committed to protecting your privacy and to using technology that gives you the most powerful and secure online experience. You can browse through most of our site without giving us any information about yourself. Sometimes, however, we do need information to provide services you request, and this statement of privacy explains our current data collection and its use in various situations.

How we learn about you
What we know about you we get mostly from you. But we may also have to find out more about you from other sources to make sure that the information we have about you is correct and complete. Those sources may include adult relatives, volunteers, public databases, etc.

We collect and use personal information for the following purposes:

  • Establish a relationship and communicate with you and your family

  • Understand your preferences and expectations

  • Solicit your financial support

  • Process and acknowledge donations and gifts

  • Provide you with information about A/U Ranches, DiscoveryBound,
A/U Adult Expeditions, 100 Elk Outdoor Center, and our other activities

  • Assist with camp and event registration

  • Update parents about programs their children may be interested in

  • Respond to your requests for information

  • With your consent, publicly recognize individual donations

  • Help us run our organization efficiently and effectively

Collection of personal information is normally limited to information required to process your gift, to obtain matching gifts (if available), and to record your relationship with Adventure Unlimited. Information collected may include, but is not limited to:

  • Your name

  • Home street address, city, state, and country

  • Phone numbers (home, mobile, office)

  • E-mail addresses

  • Church/religious affiliation (e.g., Christian Science practitioner)

  • A/U affiliations (e.g., camper, parent, former staff, friend, DiscoveryBound participant or chapter worker)

What we know about visitors to our website
As implemented on virtually all Internet websites, the A/U web server automatically collects the following data whenever you visit the site to browse, read, or download:

  • IP address from which you accessed our website (an IP address is the number automatically assigned to your computer when you surf the Web)

  • type of browser and operating system used to access our site

  • date and time you visited

  • web pages you visited or downloaded

We use this information to help make our site more useful and to learn about the number of visitors to our site and the types of technology our visitors use. We may compile and report aggregate statistics about our users (e.g., total visitors, traffic patterns, demographics, and related site information), but these statistics include no personally identifying information.

Cookies
A "cookie" is a small file deposited on your computer by a website you visit. When connecting to our website, session cookies are offered to your computer. The cookies are temporary, and do not contain personal information. Once you log out of the A/U website and you "quit" the Web browser application, the session cookies are deleted.

How we protect what we know about you
Because you entrust us with personal information, we take steps we consider reasonable to make sure that the information we have about you is treated confidentially. We also take steps to make our computer databases secure and to safeguard the information we have (e.g., granting access control appropriate to individual job functions through user ID and password). Adventure Unlimited takes every precaution to protect your personal information from unauthorized access or modification, improper use, or accidental loss.

Images of program participants as well as statements of fruitage may appear in publications, videos, and on our websites. However, full name identification or contact information will not appear with the image or fruitage statement unless permission is granted by the adult participant, or by the parent and youth if a youth participant.

Submitting your credit card information
When you submit your credit card number to make a donation or payment, we use a secure server. This helps ensure that the information is protected against unauthorized access. A/U uses Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology, utilized by most popular browsers, including Netscape and Microsoft Explorer. This technology allows us to use the industry-standard encryption tools necessary to protect information transmitted between your computer and our server.

How donors' personal information is used
The primary use of a donor's personal information is to enable us to process and acknowledge donations or payments. This personal information may be shared with other departments of our organization to ensure that donations are properly recorded, acted upon, and receipted.

We will not sell or share donors' personal or contact information with any other business or organization.

We do not sell personal information or email addresses
We will not sell personal information to other businesses, organizations, or individuals. Specifically, we will never sell your information or email address to a catalog company or telemarketer, nor will we ever send solicitations on behalf of other organizations. We may occasionally share limited personal (non-donor) data with others serving Christian Science youth. Such groups include:

  • A/U-designated volunteers (such as local DiscoveryBound chapter workers and Alumni Ambassadors)

  • other non-profit organizations (e.g, camps, churches, and schools) to support our youth programs and community outreach

  • printing & mailhouse companies, and our primary webhosting and database vendors that enable us to manage and protect A/U data

We also provide Participant Lists (which contain name, address, home phone, and email) to the individuals who attended that specific A/U or DiscoveryBound program.

You can opt out of all types of information-sharing by contacting our headquarters office at 888-416-7348, or by sending e-mail to: mail@adventureunlimited.org

Your e-mail address
Submission of your e-mail address is required in order to make an online donation or payment, or to participate in various online services. We may use your email address to acknowledge your donation and to communicate with you on topics we feel may fit your interests.

What about children using this website - is their privacy protected?
Yes. If it is learned that such information has been collected without parental consent, that information will be deleted from the site's database as quickly as practical, or the child's parent(s) will be contacted to obtain consent for the collection of the information.
