NLC All Class Retreat 2018
Living Generously
You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. “For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.” And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others. (II Cor. 9:7-8, NLT)
Who: All Teens, plus Mentors and Parents of the graduating 2018 classes. Mentors from the 2019-2021 classes are invited if you have not previously attended an ACR (the 2021 class is encouraged to attend)
When: February 16th-19th, 2018 (Presidents Day Weekend)
Where: A/U Ranches in Buena Vista, CO
Travel: DiscoveryBound NLC staff will meet everyone at the airport and transport them between there and the A/U Ranches, both ways. Please plan for your flights (DEN) to arrive before 2 pm on Friday, Feb. 16th, and depart after 2 pm on Monday, Feb. 19th. Save your travel information to input during the registration process.
Registration: Online registration is open from December 15th to January 15th. Each person must register so we can have an accurate headcount for the weekend. You will be responsible for covering your travel expenses and a nominal adult registration fee. You received an email with the registration link – we don’t announce it publicly.
Financial Assistance: All teen financial aid runs through registration, so be sure to apply there if there’s a need. We aren’t able to offer separate parent or mentor assistance.
Adult Housing Options
As an Adult guest at the All Class Retreat, you have three housing options listed below. The A/U Ranch housing facilities are filled by the many teens in NLC, so we provide hotel accommodations in Buena Vista for all adults. Our staff manages the group reservation, resides at the hotel to provide guidance throughout the weekend, and provides shuttle transportation between the hotel and Ranch. We hope that all parents and mentors will appreciate this opportunity to be together. Due to the number of expected participants, we are not able to provide private, single-occupancy rooms. Please be in touch with our office if you have special housing needs that preclude you from sharing a room. We will do our best to honor roommate requests, or one will be assigned to you if you leave the text block blank.
In registration, you will select one of the following housing options:
- Provide your own housing and transportation to/from the A/U Ranches each day.
- Room with your spouse, or an adult mentor or parent of the same gender (requests accepted, or one will be assigned to you)
- Cabin Chaperone – not guaranteed, and need to be approved by NLC staff – Chaperones share teen cabins with bunk beds and communal restroom facilities. Chaperones are expected to help manage wake-up and bedtime activities.
Meet other Christian Scientists and talk with representatives from DiscoveryBound and the A/U Ranches about our year-round programs for youth, teens, families, 20s/30s and adults. Everyone is welcome – bring your friends to play GaGa and visit over pizza.
RSVP to Suzanne Swinnerton (contact info above) for our pizza count.
Join us for lunch and presentations from DiscoveryBound and the A/U Ranches, PLUS we’ll either go sledding or play GaGa, depending on the weather.

DiscoveryBound National Leadership Council (NLC) Alumni are invited to spend four days in Boston ahead of the College Summit at The Mother Church to engage with and support the homeless community in Boston. One evening we will be pairing up with Miracle Messages to host a simple dinner and conversation for the homeless and key supporting community members. Alumni are then encouraged to stick around in Boston for the TMC college summit.
What Miracle Messages is all about: “Miracle Messages reunites homeless with their loved ones, and the rest of us as their neighbors. … To date, we’ve reunited 111 loved ones. 25% of reunions have led to stable housing, and more than 80% have led to a positive outcome. And we are just getting started.”
Fundraising
Alumni are launching a campaign to raise funds and help offset the cost of the trip. We can invest in our community now, knowing we can support future alumni down the line. Please help spread
the world about our online fundraising efforts! Fundraiser will run in mid May (help spread the word!) and is found at this link: https://adventureunlimited.ignitecx.com//NLCAlumni2018
