DB Outreach: Virtual Inspiring Talk with Christa Case Bryant
Nov 14 @ 5:00 pm – 6:00 pm

Uplifting our View of the news – and each other

A talk by The Christian Science Monitor’s Congressional correspondent

DB Outreach hosts Christa Case Bryant in another virtual Inspiring Talk on November 14th, 2021;
7pm EDT, 6pm CDT, 5pm MDT, 4pm PDT

At a time of deepening political divides and growing cynicism, we’re seeing news – and news consumption – veer toward extremes. Some people shut themselves off from media, while others become consumed by it. Mary Baker Eddy founded The Christian Science Monitor in a similarly fraught era to “injure no man, but to bless all mankind.” In this talk, we’ll explore how her founding vision for the Monitor provides a model not only for covering the events of the day but also for engaging with news – and our neighbors – in a constructive way.

Registration is now open!

About Christa Case Bryant

Christa Case Bryant has reported on many polarizing areas and issues for The Christian Science Monitor, including as Jerusalem bureau chief (2012-15), American heartland correspondent (2017-19), and as a national political reporter covering the 2020 presidential election and COVID-19 policy. Since January, she has served as the Monitor’s Congressional correspondent, with Jan. 6 being her third full day on the job.

A sampling of Ms. Bryant’s articles:

In a polarized world, what does ‘follow the science’ mean?
Science is all about asking questions, but when scientific debates become polarized it can be difficult for citizens to interpret arguments’ merits.

One vote at a time: Meet 2020’s most determined underdog.
Sanford, Maine, cut its contamination rate from 15 to 20 percent to 0 to 3 percent in just a few weeks to avoid $100,000 in fees.

China gets tough on US recyclables. How one Maine town is fighting back.
Adm. Joe Sestak, who once commanded 15,000 sailors, is polling at 0% in the 2020 Democratic primary. He walked across N.H. in a bid to win votes.
