Course title:  “Watercolor for Beginners”
Date: Tuesday, March 30, 2021

Duration: 1 hour
Target group: All ages (Space is limited)

Join us for a fun, creative and inspiring hour of watercolor painting with Kelly Foxton.

Description:  During this class Kelly will guide you through the step-by-step process of creating two simple, beautiful watercolour paintings.  No previous experience is necessary.
Required materials:
– one 8″x10″ sheet of watercolor paper (for best results use140 lb. cold pressed watercolor paper)
– one soft bristled, medium sized watercolor paint brush
– watercolor paint (if using liquid watercolors from a tube, you will need a plastic lid or pie plate to mix colors on)
– masking tape
– flat, hard surface or drawing board
– pencil
– table salt

The metaphysical theme that Kelly has been working with in preparation for this class is “Love the incentive” (marginal heading found on page 454 of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy).
“Love inspires, illumines, designates, and leads the way…. Wait patiently for divine Love to move upon the waters of mortal mind, and form the perfect concept.  Patience must “have her perfect work.”” (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 454:18)
About Kelly…
     Kelly Foxton is a self taught Canadian artist.  She was raised in rural Ontario surrounded by farms and forests.  It was there that she developed a deep sense of respect and admiration for the beauty and innate spirituality of the natural world.
     Kelly works in a wide variety of artistic styles and mediums ranging from highly detailed, realistic pencil drawings, to loosely executed landscape impressionism and color studies in watercolor and pastel.
     She is best known for her work as a wildlife artist and author/illustrator of the children’s book titled “Mother Nature Knows…” 
     Kelly currently lives with her husband and the youngest of her three children near Bear River, Nova Scotia, Canada.

DB Compass: Registration Launch for 2021-2022

Christian Science youth entering the 10th–12th grades who are ready to dive into Christian Science are eligible to register for Compass. Registration is open April 1 until early August.
By registering for Compass, you are joining a program that spans one full school year and includes three trips and monthly Zoom calls!

20s/30s young adults are invited to join DB, a practitioner, and other Christian Science young adults around the country for a virtual game night! These Hangouts are held twice a month on zoom (unless the month is filled with tons of other great events being offered too). We start with metaphysical sharing and inspiration, facilitated by a different practitioner supporting each call. Then we play games! The host always has a game prepared and ready to play, but participants are encouraged to bring/teach/run their own favorite games the group can play virtually as well. We hope you can join us!

ALL- AGES JETTY PARK EVENT

Come join Florida DB groups for a day of fun, sun, and inspiration! This year it will be a one-day event where you can enjoy a morning of kayaking with the manatees and dolphins with A Day Away Kayak Tours in Titusville followed by hanging out at Jetty Park Beach, lunch, games and an inspirational speaker.

Metaphysical Theme:  “Love enriches the nature, enlarging, purifying, and elevating it. (Science and Health 57: 23-24)
Inspirational Speaker –  Michael Brown – US Navy Chaplain
A Christian Science Chaplain with the US Navy, Michael has spent the last decade serving with Navy and Marine Corps units across the country and deployed overseas.  After graduating from Principia College in 2003, he returned to his childhood home near Seattle and worked with a law firm to develop programs for ethics and integrity in public policy.  His love of aviation led him next to work at a regional seaplane airline, where he served as flight operations director and station manager at the company’s Seattle seaplane terminal.  In 2009, Michael joined The Mother Church’s Chaplain Training Program and began his graduate studies at the Boston University School of Theology, graduating in 2012 with a Masters of Divinity and a specialization in mediation and conflict resolution.  Michael then entered active duty service as a staff Chaplain at Naval Station Norfolk, VA.  In 2016, his next assignment took him to the high desert of Twentynine Palms, CA, where he served with US Marine Corps units, including 1st Tank Battalion and 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines, with which he deployed to support Operations Inherent Resolve and Enduring Freedom in Iraq, Syria, Kuwait, Jordan, and Afghanistan.  In the fall of 2018, he transitioned to serve as Command Chaplain onboard the guided missile cruiser, USS LAKE CHAMPLAIN in San Diego, CA.  Michael Currently serves with the Naval Submarine Support Center at Kings Bay, GA.  He is blessed to be joined in these adventures by his wife, Lane, and children William and Ruth.

Space may be limited! (currently the maximum of people gathering at Jetty Park is 50)
Currently tent camping is closed but we are able to use the group rented pavilions for our afternoon activity.

DB Outreach: A Virtual Bible Talk – “Philippians: Paul’s Lesson in Joy”

Thanks to the Idaho chapter of DiscoveryBound (part of a national youth organization for Christian Scientists) for their sponsorship of this virtual talk by Madelon Maupin, MTS.  The talk will be appropriate for both teens and adults. It would also be perfect for Sunday School students, so please invite and share the information with others!

Before the event, a group of us will be attending the Winter Park Church if you would like to come join us for the service. Then we hope you can come for an exciting afternoon! 20s/30s will come together to create a meal that a chef will guide them through. This will be an opportunity for people to come together and make fun, new recipes! We will begin the virtual cooking class at 4pm PT, 5pm MT, 6pm CT, and 7pm ET with introductions and then jump into making the delicious meal together. The event costs $10 to register.

Join DB for another virtual Inspiring Talk with retired Army Colonel Janet Horton on the topic of Embracing Humanity. Come to be inspired by some of Janet’s own experiences and finding that love is always the victor. She will share about love overcoming hate and finding the healing answer even in the toughest and most shocking situations.

About Janet Horton

Janet Horton is a native of Crystal, Michigan and grew up in Iowa.  She is married to Jeffrey Harvey of Swanton, VT.  She entered the U. S. Army in June 1976 served for 28 years as a Christian Science Chaplain.  She was the first woman in the Army Chaplain Corps to be assigned as a Division or Corps level Supervisory Chaplain and the first woman to attain the grade of Colonel in the Army Chaplain Corps.  

She had two tours in the Pentagon and prayed with casualties in the Pentagon Courtyard on 9-11,  and supervised the religious support for Task Forces in Bosnia, Albania and Kosovo.  

Her education includes a Masters of Divinity from Boston University School of Theology in Theology and a Masters of Arts Degree in Religious Studies from Stanford University in Religious Studies.  She was selected as a Distinguished Alumni of Boston University School of Theology in September of 2011.  She was the first woman Chaplain to attend the Army War College.  From her studies of Divine Command Morality and the Abraham Tradition she has briefed on the Extremist mindset in the Military Intelligence community, the Inter Agencies such as Homeland Defense, the US Marshall’s Office and the Defense Intelligence Agency and at Pace University in New York City.   

She currently volunteers providing Christian Science services at the Marion County Correctional Facility.

Janet was inducted into the U.S. Army Women’s Foundation Hall of Fame on March 7, 2019.

DB and Society Fit are teaming up to bring you a fun Fitness Class! We will begin the event with a welcome/introductions and then Sierra Blumer, Society Fit’s Media Manager, will bring a quick inspirational thought to share with everyone before jumping into the workout. From there we will pass it over to Society Fit’s instructors Savanna Sprague and Devon Baggs. Savanna will lead us in a workout and Devon will end the class with some yoga.
